If you're going to invest your time in certs, you need to look at cloud based certs. There are obvious exceptions for security focused companies, but your standard ABC Company doing standard ABC work, doesn't care. Private sector, generic certs are worthless, and most companies don't care about security. Public sector, certs mean very little outside of your 8570 requirements, IAT II at a minimum. Without actual SysAdmin experience you'll be a bit lower, but not significantly. Where I'm at, an active T5 SysAdmin with SCI/SAP eligibility is making 125K in a moderate COL area (Midwest, not coastal). With that said, pay attention to contractor pay rates in your area. If you want job security and a decent pension, go Fed. If your paycheck is the most important, go contract.
If you have a clearance, stay public (Or private DoD contractor, if you can get in).
